San José del Cabo sits just 10-13 km (6-8 miles) north of Los Cabos International Airport (SJD). With a private transfer, the ride to Zona Hotelera or Centro Histórico takes 15-20 minutes — the shortest transfer of any major Cabos destination. One-way pricing starts at $84 USD for a private van, with child seats, bottled water, and flight tracking included.
How long is the transfer from SJD to San José del Cabo?
San José del Cabo is the closest town to Los Cabos International Airport — the drive is 10-13 km along Highway 1 (Carretera Transpeninsular) southbound, plus a short turnoff depending on which neighborhood. With no traffic, the door-to-door ride is 15 minutes. During peak afternoon arrivals (12-4 PM) plan for 20-25 minutes, especially during high season (Dec-Apr).

Which San José del Cabo neighborhood are you staying in?
San José del Cabo is compact but has three distinct zones, and where you stay changes the route and a few logistics. Tell us your specific hotel at booking — we route the driver directly, no shared shuttle stops.
Zona Hotelera (Hotel Row)
The beachfront strip lining Playa Hotelera, home to most large resorts including Hyatt Ziva, JW Marriott Los Cabos, Royal Solaris, Viceroy Los Cabos, and Secrets Puerto Los Cabos. Direct access via Boulevard Mijares with a short loop into each resort entrance. 15-18 minutes from SJD.
Centro Histórico
The colonial heart around Plaza Mijares — art galleries, restaurants, Iglesia San José, and the famed Thursday Art Walk. Boutique hotels and rentals here include Tropicana Inn, El Encanto, and Casa Natalia. 18-22 minutes from SJD depending on traffic around the plaza.
Fonatur Marina & Puerto Los Cabos border
East of the historic center, the Fonatur Marina area transitions into the gated Puerto Los Cabos community. Drive time is 20-25 minutes — still well under the Cabo San Lucas trip. If your reservation is at Auberge Secrets or El Ganzo, this is your zone.
What does a San José del Cabo transfer cost?
Because SJD is so close to San José del Cabo, our pricing is at the entry-level Los Cabos tier — significantly cheaper than transfers to Cabo San Lucas or Pacific-side resorts. Price is all-inclusive: vehicle, driver, taxes, tolls, bottled water, and child seats on request. No tip required.
| Vehicle | Capacity | Best for | One-way USD |
|---|---|---|---|
| Private Van | Up to 8 pax | Couples, families, small groups | $84 |
| VIP Suburban | Up to 6 pax | Premium comfort, leather interior | $84 |
| Mercedes Sprinter | Up to 18 pax | Large groups, weddings, events | $138 |
What to expect when you land at SJD
Los Cabos International Airport has two terminals (T1 for domestic + most US carriers, T2 for some international). After Immigration and Customs, follow the "Ground Transportation" signs to the outside of the arrivals hall.
- Walk past the timeshare salespeople (they wear logo polos — politely decline, they are not the airport staff).
- Cross the curbside lane and look for "Shaded Area #3" — our host meets every Cabos Airport Transportation guest there.
- They will be holding a board with your last name. Show your booking confirmation if asked.
- Your vehicle is parked steps away. Luggage loaded, AC running, departing within 5 minutes of meet.

Private transfer vs. taxi, shared shuttle, or rental car in San José del Cabo
Because San José del Cabo is the closest zone to SJD, every option looks reasonable on paper — the drive is short no matter how you get there. The difference shows up in wait time, flight-delay coverage, and whether you have to negotiate a price at the curb. The taxi sindicato (union) runs official, zone-based rates from a kiosk inside arrivals: Zone 1 (San José del Cabo — Centro, Zona Hotelera, Playa Hotelera) is priced at $65-85 USD, paid in cash, with no flight tracking.
| Option | Approx. cost | Wait / stops | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Private transfer (us) | $84 USD / vehicle | 0 min, direct | Flight-tracked, all-inclusive, child seats included |
| Taxi sindicato | $65-85 USD / vehicle | 0 min, direct | Zone 1 official rate, cash only at the arrivals kiosk |
| Shared shuttle | $13-20 USD / person | 15-60 min fill wait + 2-4 hotel stops | Cheapest per person for solo/couple travelers, no child seats |
| Rental car | $50-90 USD / day + insurance | 0 min, direct | You drive after a long flight; no flight-delay coverage |
For a solo traveler or a couple, the shared shuttle is the cheapest way in on a per-person basis — but you still wait 15-60 minutes at the airport for the van to fill, then stop at 2-4 other hotels before reaching San José del Cabo, even though the drive itself is only 15-20 minutes. A private transfer costs about the same as the taxi sindicato rate but adds flight tracking, child seats, and an English-speaking driver with no cash negotiation at the curb. A rental car makes sense if you plan day trips beyond San José del Cabo (the Tourist Corridor, Cabo San Lucas, the East Cape); for a straight airport-to-hotel trip it rarely saves money once insurance is added, and unlike a private transfer, it does not adjust for a delayed flight.
Late-night and early morning arrivals
SJD operates 24 hours but most international flights land between 9 AM and 8 PM. We staff drivers across the full clock — if you have a 2 AM red-eye arrival or a 4 AM departure, the service runs identically. The closer transfer time to San José hotels also means less risk of an early-morning highway drive in the dark.
