Puerto Los Cabos is a 2,000-acre master-planned community on the Sea of Cortez, just east of San José del Cabo, with a full-service marina and a 27-hole Nicklaus/Norman golf course. A private SJD transfer takes 25-32 minutes door-to-door. One-way pricing starts at $84 USD for a private van — child seats, bottled water, and flight tracking included.
How long is the transfer from SJD to Puerto Los Cabos?
Puerto Los Cabos sits about 16-25 km from SJD, depending on which gate you enter. The route leaves the airport on Highway 1 southbound, exits onto Boulevard Mauricio Castro through San José del Cabo, then continues east to the Puerto Los Cabos main gate at Mile 2 of the East Cape highway. Door-to-door is typically 25-32 minutes with no traffic.

What makes Puerto Los Cabos different?
Puerto Los Cabos is a master-planned community designed for residents and resort guests — not a public marina. The Nicklaus/Norman composite course, the artisan walkway, and the protected marina mean the area feels more residential than typical tourist zones. It is also the closest of the upscale "east" zones to San José del Cabo town, which means dinner and shopping options are 5-10 minutes away.
Private transfer vs. taxi, shared shuttle, or rental car in Puerto Los Cabos
The gate is what actually narrows your options here. The taxi sindicato (union) runs official, zone-based rates from a kiosk inside arrivals — Puerto Los Cabos and the eastern Tourist Corridor fall under Zone 2, priced at $70-90 USD, paid in cash, with no flight tracking. Shared shuttles are the cheapest way into most Cabos zones on a per-person basis, but they do not have standing arrangements with any gated community in Los Cabos, Puerto Los Cabos included — the shuttle company cannot clear your name at the guard gate, so it is not actually an option for a Secrets, Zadun, or El Ganzo reservation.
| Option | Approx. cost | Gate access | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Private transfer (us) | $84 USD / vehicle | Yes — pre-cleared | Flight-tracked, all-inclusive, name added to the daily guest manifest |
| Taxi sindicato (Zone 2) | $70-90 USD / vehicle | Case-by-case | Cash only at the arrivals kiosk, no flight tracking |
| Shared shuttle | Not offered here | No | Shuttle operators have no gate arrangement with Puerto Los Cabos |
| Rental car | $50-90 USD / day + insurance | Self-clear at gate | You drive after a long flight; still subject to the same guest-list check |
That gate restriction is the real differentiator for this zone, more than price: whoever drives you in has to be on the guest list, so a shared shuttle — the usual cheapest option elsewhere in Los Cabos — simply is not sold for Puerto Los Cabos addresses. That leaves a private transfer, the taxi sindicato, or a self-driven rental car, all of which clear the same gate check described above. The sindicato's Zone 2 rate ($70-90) is close to our $84 private rate, but it's cash-only with no flight-delay coverage and no guarantee the driver already has your name staged with the gate guard. A rental car works if you plan to explore the East Cape or San José del Cabo independently, but for a straight airport-to-resort run it adds insurance cost and puts a jet-lagged traveler behind the wheel for the gate check-in and the final approach road.
